Centrify would like to move patent infringement case to Northern California

PR Newswire reports that Centrify Corp. has filed a lawsuit against Quest Software, Inc. in U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California seeking to invalidate Quest's patent which allows Unix and Linux systems to be managed using Windows group policy tools.  This lawsuit is in response to a lawsuit Quest filed in the District Court of Utah on Friday.

The complaint states that in May 2005 Quest purchased Vintela, Inc. which was based in Lindon, Utah.  Vintela owned the Translation patent which is the subject of the current dispute.  (Interestingly, this article notes that the transaction was not completed as of June 2005).  The complaint alleges that Centrify and Likewise Software, Inc. sell products that use the patented group policy functions.

The N.D. Cal case information cannot be located.
The Utah case is Quest Software, Inc. v. Centrify Corporation and Likewise Software, Inc. No. 10-0859 and the complaint is below the jump.
